For moi?

Yay, I opened an Amazon box yesterday - it was even addressed to me. Inside was a Kindle. Now I am a madwoman trying to finish a book I was working on just so I can try the new toy out.

*Update: The Kindle has been great! Mr & others have pointed me to some free books, which is great since I am reading more than ever. Still worried that I'll spill a cup of tea on it or drop it one of these days, but so far so good.

Explicit warning...

Beetle sex & more from the garden...

Stormed over

Okay, so the weirdo tomato plant has gotten even more peculiar.
A couple of days ago we had a big storm with a lot of wind. Since the plant was growing way above it's cage, it got all bent over. Now the silly thing is leaning on it's neighbor. However, the main stalk does not seem to be crimped or broken and it has a new branch of fruit coming out. So, I daren't snip it's head off. Here's a photo. Kind of hard to see with all the mass of green, but I've circled where there's fruit appearing...

All fresh & squashy

Yum! We have been living off of a wonderful casserole for the last few days.
Dear Corinne gave us some squash from her Mum's garden. We layered them with  sliced criminis, aubergine, onions, celery, garlic and herbs from our own garden. With a topping of panko bread crumbs mixed with shredded gruyère and onion crispies, the project was a success. Mr is even willing to eat some leftovers - it must be good.

Trapped!

Over fertilized?

So, our tomato plant is taller than I am now. Should I be worried? That is to say, it is taller than I am, even after being pinched back several times + it only has one branch blooming and producing tomatoes. That one branch is going crazy & I think it might break if it doesn't get some support soon. But the whole thing is kind of weird. I wonder if it's not getting enough sunlight or if I gave it too much fertilizer or something...

Stupid exercise

What feels good now will make me feel crummy later. What feels yuck now will make me feel better later...hopefully.

Green and sweet

Last night was Second Saturday on Friday. SS is a monthly dinner with friends. It is a potluck that rotates thru different homes. Usually there is a theme - this one ended up being loosely summer picnic. The host makes a dish and then everyone else makes something to go with that.

So, we made a cobbler using rhubarb, peaches, cherries and blueberries. We worked combining what looked like the best parts of 2 different recipes. The topping was more like a sugar cookie than a biscuit. If I made it again, think I would try and make the batter a little fluffier so that it would cook all the way thru more evenly. Anyhow, when we left it was 2/3rds gone, so couldn't have been very awful.

Also, here is a picture of some herbs in a recycled 'vase' that we brought along too. Not the same as gorgeous flowers, but figured that while Diane is away someone has to try and keep things classy.

Summer Cut

Is there a hamster in there?

Let me in! Let me out!

I guess that we all think that the other guy gets the better deal, huh?
