The mundane and the extraordinary
There are things which (when we remember) are invaluable all the time. The fact that we have food, love, warm nests, all of that. Great! Glad we are making a point of appreciating these things as a society all together like - in addition to our own daily gratitude.
We need reminding that it's getting cold out there and people less fortunate could use more hot meals. How lucky that we can have a bit extra to send as somewhere on an island far, far away, people have been blown out of their homes. There's a whole world of hurt out there and I, at least, am spoiled rotten.
Still, is there anything more vile than when Mrs Do-goody wants all her friends to know that she is ever so "thankful" for her daughters good report card and her husbands bonus (coming just in time to reward formerly mentioned offspring with a special gift from Santa).
I am not above this kind of thing, and sometimes (when I reflect for 10 seconds) I see it in my own words. Perhaps it is this realization that makes me cringe when other folks post this stuff.
Anyhow, I'm gonna use some of this spare time to go dwell on self-improvement methods. Surely YouTube has some video to help me fix my short fuse? After all, they did teach me to train the dog to not hate the treadmill.

2 Steps Forward
Before he fell into this comatose state, we had a nice trot across the big dam. That sounds like a non-event, but for a creature fixated on crickets & goose poop, it was our first really great walk in the grass. He even stood quietly for a half minute, surveying the lake.
The second grand happening was a struggle-free nail trim. Can I tell you that for 16 years I wrestled with squirming, yipping & nipping chihuahuas who DID NOT want their feet touched, let alone their nails even looked at. Neko, on the other hand gnawed on a tennis ball and let me flip him around like we were auditioning for Cirque Du Soleil.
Sorry to be so obnoxious. I get irritated with people that talk about their kids like this. It's just so fun having a new hairball & learning his personality. Anyhow, let's hope tomorrow isn't three steps back:)

In the spirit of honesty
In case you have not been engaging in this behaviour (in which case, are you even human?!), let me just tell you that nothing tastes so good as the pilfered bite.

The botanist
Mrs McCreary wondered if the girl was perhaps slightly autistic. She was slightly something, that's for sure. There were plenty of children, over the many years teaching third grade, that had been different or difficult to connect with. Esther was beyond strange though. It was like encountering an old person who was looking back on life rather than just jumping into it. Maybe the parents had cursed her with that name. Maybe they just had some strange insight. In any case, the antiquated monicker fit the child perfectly.

Phoebe, Zara & Carly had been best friends since pretty much before they were born. Their parents all belonged to the Green Meadows club. That meant that they also all lived nearby & spent almost every weekend together. Phoebe was born 2 months too far behind to get into the same grade as her pals -something she'd never forgive her parents for.
Sometimes "ZaC" would gang up on her a bit. Three is always a tricky grouping - even more so amongst little girls - even, even more so when two of them morph into one. When Phoebe was on the outs, she would often end up hanging around with Esther. She wasn't the only one.
Certainly, if asked, the other children would never admit to liking the strange girl. On the other hand, Esther was hardly ever alone & had a real knack of disrupting all order. One time, she and Phoebe came in after lunch with torn tights, scuffed shoes and leaves in their hair. What a mess! Best to leave that to the parents.
By the end of the week, half the class came in caked in mud and KJ was soaked up to his knees. Of course, even with chattering teeth, he was giggling like a nutter.
When the truth was finally pumped out of them, it turned out that Esther had led them down the garden path (literally), across a brook and into the woods beyond school property. Apparently, they'd found an old shed full of junk and were working on making the perfect fort. After apologies to parents and a closer eye kept on during recess, the off campus adventures ended.
However, this just inspired greater creativity on the playground. Running out to a cacophony of howls and Hoots, the teachers found children had climbed up into every tree, wall & structure they could find. Zara was impossibly dangling by one arm off the basketball hoop! Esther sat still on the curb. When she looked up and quietly stated "they are my monkeys" Mrs M wondered less if she was borderline autistic than borderline psychopath.

Missing Mr
Listening to The Psychedelic Furs & playing w sculpey. Made a little Mr. He looks a bit more like Bill Murray than the real husband.
Anyhoo, this being my first foray, we'll see if he makes it thru the baking stage.
And no, you meanies out there, he's not a voodoo, stick pins in him doll. More like a boobless husband Barbie.
Here he is meditating on his future...

High Art
Not!
Nice & cheerful. Maybe I should put a person swimming in the pond? It'd probably just end up looking like a corpse. Du-oh! Not the best advertising is it?

Goodbye to the Holla
There were some beautiful views & some great stories to be embellished upon over time. But in my humble opinion, the best thing about the house was the wonderful characters it contained!
We're already enjoying making history in the new & beautiful home. Cheers cousins - life be gud!
