Further on up the road

Here are some pictures I took at work - can you believe that they have to pay me to show up?!

Guilt...sorta

Is there any other small, bulbous black spider with a red mark on it's belly besides a black widow?
There was one such specimen that scuttled under some leaves by a door. Upon closer inspection, the web over said leaves was swarming with teency, baby spiders.
Like a typical, paranoid human, my response was to spray insecticide* on the mass. That seemed to shut the whole community down immediately. Now I am left feeling fairly like a grade-A a$$hole, but also slightly relieved.

*Probably took months off of my own life just touching the can.

Oh great, I am an idiot - just looked up at the VA Cooperative Extension about them and here's a nice quote...
"Although it is true that human deaths have occurred from widow spider bites, it is important to note that modern fatalities from widow bites occur in less than 1 percent of all people bitten. The chances of dying are so low that one researcher compared the chances of dying from a widow spider bite to your chances of being struck by lightning."

Music for mountain driving

Listening to this made me wish I had a motorcycle on the Shenandoah Skyline Drive this afternoon. Beautiful day, relaxing drive + great tunes thanks to suggestions and a little technical help!

Road trip

Yes, that was truly a great cinematic work of art.
Moving right along...
Getting ready for tomorrow. Heading to Philly to meet Julia and give Rocky some licks - yay!
I brushed the mulch out as best I could with my paws. Then decided that I was too lazy to vacuum up the rest. Sooooo, throwing a pareo over the back seat and calling it good...

Demographic studies suggest that I am your perfect sucker

The marketing geniuses at the grocers really hit the bank with this one. I didn't even bother adding the lettuces, carrots, garlic, sprouts, tomatoes, cherries or the bag of lemons in these shots. How is one supposed to resist produce at this time of year? HOW I ask yas?

If you know anyone hungry, send 'em my way.

A grinning idiot

Walking today, we're discussing a movie night. Anyhoo, that led to a brief bout on actors. Some of these guys are in terrible movies, but I watch them anyhow because there's a possibility of them being really funny. I probably only find that in about 1/4 of their films, but it's worth sitting thru the schlock for those moments.

This has me thinking about some of my fellow travelers and their occasional relapses into adolescence. I find myself grinning like an idiot. They aren't wise-asses most of the time, but I find that such an endearing trait that it's totally worth hanging in there. Most of the time they are stand up folks with normal lives and we have a very dignified friendship (yawn). But, when it goes off the deep end, now there's something truly special.

Different kindsa hot

So, it is friggin hot. Yesterday was scheduled to be 97 and today they're talking about 93. Buuuuuut, life is all relative, right? So, it's still cooling off some at night. That means that the mornings aren't even too bad. When I complain about 90+ in July, it's a whole different thing because it gets there and just stays hot. The roads are warm to the touch at 8am and the lake is like a giant, bacteria-ridden bath.  It's just gross. But, I am looking forward to summer. Really.
